The Apple Studio Display offers a gorgeous 5K Retina display with True Tone, excellent color accuracy, and seamless macOS integration in a beautiful aluminum design. However, critics consistently point out that the high price, mediocre webcam (despite A13 chip), lack of HDR/local dimming, and limited adjustability make it hard to recommend over third-party alternatives unless you specifically value the Apple ecosystem integration and 5K resolution.

The 5K Retina display is genuinely beautiful — 218 PPI makes text razor-sharp and images incredibly detailed.
Excellent color reproduction with P3 wide color support — well-suited for creative professional work.
The 12MP webcam with A13 chip and Center Stage was initially disappointing and remains mediocre despite firmware improvements.
Beautiful Apple design with a frustrating limitation — the standard stand only tilts, and the adjustable stand costs $400 extra.
The most divisive aspect — $1,599 for an SDR-only monitor is hard to justify on specs alone, but the Apple ecosystem premium is real.
